My first Day at Andela’s Cohort 13 Bootcamp
--
It has been a long day coming, finally I made it through to the Andela Cohort 13 Bootcamp. My travel to Nairobi — Kenya from Dar es salaam-Tanzania was superb as it was my first time travel to Kenya.
I met fantastic people from around Kenya at Andela’s offices in Nairobi, I was greatly received by fellow bootcamp invitees whom I fell in love immediately. What if someone asks you in a new place that you have never been before for a warm up, what comes in mind? As we were waiting for what will be introduced to us, I heard “We have a tradition for morning warm ups” by one of the andela fellows, I was terrified a bit but it turns out that it was about getting outside the building and and play some fun but yet interactive games. Through this I had an opportunity to closely interact with my fellow attendees which made my first day at Andela a memorable one.
Few minutes after the warm up session, we were notified by one of the Andela’s fellow that we needed to be at Prestige Plaza premises, for this day’s agenda to start. The introductory note by the “ Father of Andela” here in Kenya Mr. Ethan was liberating considering how strict is the selection process, and I liked the part “Ownership” that he happened to emphasize a lot among other things such as Growth and Proactivity, his opening remarks contributed tremendously to what I had previously anticipated of the Andela Bootcamp.
Other Andela Fellows continued to give us the very food of our excited and ready to learn brains. With a the engagement that we had in the second session I was able to understand what exactly we mean to say “Growth Mindset”. I and other members were able to look around ourselves and correlate this idea with our surroundings, the people around us and What impact as an Andelan one could make.
The session with Mr. Evans, was enjoyable as we were able to reason with each other the room on why we need to write efficient computer programs by doing Asymptotic analysis to algorithms. I have come across this terminology during my University time but it is today I had a full grasp of what exactly it means. He went further to engage us with concepts of why unit testing is important in software development and we had the live code session where by the code came from among us and this learning technique proved to be effective especially when you learn from your peers in an interactive manner.
Thank you very much Andela for this wonderful opportunity and here I joyful attest “TIA”
